From Taylor to Ariana, pops overreliance on gossip is choking the life out of it Pop and rock

We’ll have to wait till the makeup line launches in November to find out. She serves looks every single day and Ariana's Instagram account is stacked full of flawless selfies that show off that epic ponytail in al its glory – so whilst we do love those natural curls, we're not complaining about that iconic Ari do. Having sported red hair in her role as Cat Valentine in hit Nickelodeon show Victorious at the start of career, Ariana has since gone on to become a hair icon and her natural curls are seriously gorgeous.

Yesterday Ari took to Instagram to share her (glowing) review of new movie In the Heights, and for the occasion she seems to have ditched the hair pieces and stuck to a cute low chignon or ponytail. The former Nickelodeon star explained in a Facebook post back in 2014 that she was actually forced to start using extensions because her hair was so damaged from years of dying it. Drag superstar Gottmik slayed Ariana’s face in the cute video and used r.e.m beauty products to create the look. Ariana Grande has a new line called r.e.m beauty, and it is a project she worked on for years. Her latest pictures represent chapter two of the brand’s products.

Reporting in this current political climate is a responsibility we do not take lightly, and we thank you for your support. Whether you come to HuffPost for updates on the 2024 presidential race, hard-hitting investigations into critical issues facing our country today, or trending stories that make you laugh, we appreciate you. The truth is, news costs money to produce, and we are proud that we have never put our stories behind an expensive paywall. The “Dangerous Woman” singer shared the new cover image (and a few others from the issue) on Instagram Monday morning, and she looks almost unrecognizable.

Celebrity Hair & Makeup

The short black-and-white clip was shared to Grande's Instagram Stories, and it shows her in the mirror, obscuring her face with her phone as she plays with her hair. As we so frequently see her, the singer is wearing that hair in a high ponytail. However, it's not the extra-long, super-straight version we almost always see her sporting. But even after the singer’s natural hair got stronger, she kept on wearing her high ponytail because she actually fell in love with the look, and so did the rest of the world.

Maybe Swift was going for the highest-profile humiliation of her exes possible; maybe it’s an admission of defeat against a media that will pick the bones clean of anything she does – or a naked attempt to harness the exposure guaranteed by that kind of coverage. With Ariana having been required to have red hair for years from the age of 16, it makes sense that Ariana's hair would've suffered some serious damage, which is a real shame because those curls are stunning. Ariana released a new YouTube video so that fans could see how she achieves her perfect cat-eye. Here are some of our favorite products for the sweetest sleek and shine. Now, there's a new member of the wet hair squad and it’s somebody unexpected.

She looked down and revealed shimmery lids adorned with r.e.m beauty. Ariana pouted her lips as her hair cascaded down her shoulders. She looked up in the second picture and showed off her glittery makeup. Ariana Grande showed a different side of her, as she opted not to wear her signature ponytail. She may have gone without her ponytail for her album release day, but as Ari told The Fader back in May, "the pony has also gone through an evolution, and I'm proud of that. Old pony? I don't know if she's that girl. But new pony? I like her."

Her ‘do was accessorized with two on-trend, bedazzled hair barrettes, which she wore at her hairline to keep her strands out of her face while performing. Fans lost their minds when they saw the look, taking to Twitter immediately to express their adoration for the “Thank You, Next” singer’s new style. Seeing as just a month ago we saw the pop star sport Kim Kardashian's famous wet-look mermaid waves, could this perhaps be the end of her iconic snatched hairstyle era? But as we always say, beauty trends come and go, yet our love for Ari remains forever. Taking to her beauty brand, r.e.m. beauty's Instagram page, Ari shared a video introducing her friends, fans and followers to her very first holiday makeup collection. It does an absolutely champion job of holding all manner of hair extensions, ponytail clip-ins and even glossy pigtails, but it's fair to assume that level of tension is a lot for any one scalp to take.

Occasionally, Grande can be seen with her hair down, or even sans extensions like in her "Thank You, Next" music video. Usually, she favors a sleek, straight, superlong style and returns to her signature pony shortly after. Check out some of the other times she's worn it down ahead.

R.e.m beauty products are available now on the brand’s website. Ariana was also forced to respond when an Internet troll took aim at her ponytail in July. After someone had commented on an Instagram photo that they were "sick of the ponytail," Ariana responded, saying, "I'm not." Our journalists will continue to cover the twists and turns during this historic presidential election. With your help, we'll bring you hard-hitting investigations, well-researched analysis and timely takes you can't find elsewhere.

"So as annoying as it is for y'all to have to look at the same hair style all the time, it's all that works for now," Grande explained. The musician has been vocal about her changing attitudes toward beauty, recently telling Vogue that her relationship with makeup and injectibles has evolved over the years. "I, over the years, used makeup as a disguise or as something to hide behind. More and more and more hair, more and more thicker — the eyeliner — and that can be so beautiful at times, and I still do have love for it," she shared.

None of this is to say that pop stars should avoid writing about their personal lives – far from it. But the most resonant pop steers between the two impulses. Charli XCX’s comeback single Von Dutch was clearly taunting someone – “it’s OK to just admit that you’re jealous of me” – but whoever the subject is pales in comparison to the way the song’s brazen grind makes you feel just as unfuckwithable as Charli. The Tortured Poets Department has a handful of moments like this. The unfulfilled yearning is the album’s most convincingly sensual moment – a testament to leaving the picture incomplete. This isn't the first time she's taken a break from the look.

She seemed burned by the invasive coverage; so too was Joshua Bassett, the alleged male party, who ended up hospitalised as a result of the stress and whose career has never recovered. Carpenter, the rumoured “other woman”, wrote the excellently nonchalant Because I Liked a Boy after she was hounded over the allegations (“Now I’m a homewrecker, I’m a slut … Tell me who I am ’cos I don’t have a choice”). She then seemed to become weaponised in a rumoured rift between Rodrigo and Swift when the latter invited Carpenter to support the Eras tour (Rodrigo’s comeback single Vampire was also assumed to be about Swift). We went ahead and did some investigating, and it turns out, the singer has actually showed off her natural locks a bunch of times over the years! We rounded up all the photos, and you’re seriously not going to believe how different her real hair looks.

And although it's tough to tell if it's all hers, it's clear to see that her hair is much healthier than her Nickelodeon days. In addition to her jaw-dropping vocals, Ariana Grande has (unofficially) become the queen of ponytails. It doesn't matter if she's rocking a half-up half-down style or working an I Dream of Genie topper, we rarely get to see the star without her signature hairdo. But in her latest video for her single Dangerous Woman, the 22-year-old gives us a nearly four-minute performance with her brunette strands hanging freely over her shoulders.

The highly-anticipated release day for Ariana Grande's new album Sweetener has finally arrived. As fans continue to decode the album for clues, the pop star has been reveling in the release day fun and was spotted literally letting her hair down for the occasion. Dedicated Grande fans probably recall when the star changed things up while on tour in Chicago back in June. At the time, her hairstylist, Josh Liu, took to Instagram Stories to say “Y’all need to relax.” Clearly, fans cannot do so, since the superstar’s only publicly worn her hair down a handful of times, including the 2018 MTV VMA’s. Last year Grande gave us a peek at how her natural curls were thriving underneath the ponytail hairpieces with four selfies on Instagram. Her fans went crazy, and the image earned 1.5 million likes.

Despite the fact that the high ponytail has become Ariana Grande's signature look, the pop artist has worn her hair in a handful of other ways since becoming the superstar that she is today. But if there's one thing in this world that we can all count on, it's Arianators losing their collective mind whenever she reveals how she looks without a ponytail. That happened last night, and has continued to happen today, after Grande took the stage in Chicago on her Sweetener/Thank U, Next tour with long, straight hair. Ariana Grande’s signature, sleek high-ponytail is obviously iconic, but there’s something extra exciting about when the star ditches it for an unexpected new look. As we near the end of the Sweetener World Tour, the singer has been abandoning the famous ponytail to wear her hair down — and fans have strong feelings on the matter.

"No you absolutely devoured this look wtf? the plate is literally gone ??? not a single crumb??????" wrote another. "I'm sorry but let's take a moment for the hair oh my god," commented another. The move away from physical music and bespoke music media to streaming and social media seems key to this shift. New music is now just another thing in your feed; it has had to use the eye-catching clickbait of its competitors to keep pace. It’s also down to a generation of particularly young female pop stars becoming the writers of their own work and so documenting their own lives, something that was much less common at the turn of the 2010s.
